ABA CODE OF ETHICAL CONDUCT


FOR STAFF, DIRECTORS AND Volunteers*

ABA volunteers and staff will conduct themselves in keeping with the following
Ethical principles when acting on ABA business:

Equality: ABA Volunteers and staff shall treat all ABA members equally and fairly regardless of industry sector, geographic region or business size or affiliation and shall not show any preference or favoritism to one to the detriment of another. The services offered by ABA shall be sorted based on the categories of each member. The categories of membership are solely subject to the selection of each applicant to ABA membership.

Impartiality: ABA’s decision and policy-making process strives to serve the interests of the entire industry as opposed to a particular sector or region. ABA volunteers and staff shall not promote the interests of one sector or region of the industry to the obvious detriment of another. The field of ABA’s focus is construction industry interlinked with other sectors of economy of country.

Objectivity: ABA volunteers shall disclose any self-interest or other factor that could be construed as influencing their decision-making. ABA, in no way, accepts the existence of self-interest seeking by staff or volunteers whatsoever.

Transparency: ABA shall keep a transparent and accountable approach in the face of objectivity, impartiality and commitment to construction industry of Afghanistan. ABA shall keep its non-profit morale and keeps its commitment to give a hand for development of construction industry.

Gifts, Favors: ABA staff shall disclose to the ABA Chief Operating Officer any gift or favor provided to them by an ABA member or supplier that might in any way be perceived as intended to influence a decision to use a particular supplier or to assist a particular member.

Apolitical: ABA volunteers and staff shall strive to ensure that ABA maintains its apolitical stature. While ABA may support policies or programs that are developed, promoted or associated with a particular political party, it does not support a particular political party to the exclusion of others. ABA whatsoever supports any political movement and shall not show preference to any, while the political rights of staff and volunteers are ensured to vote or get votes or support a democratically conducted election in Afghanistan.

National Scope: ABA is a national association whose mandate is clearly the national or Afghanistan realm. ABA volunteers and staff shall confine their views and lobby efforts to the national or country level unless specifically requested by a Member Association to assist it in a regional or international initiative.

Consistency: ABA volunteers and staff shall ensure that any opinions expressed on ABA’s behalf are consistent with well-recognized ABA policies and positions and are not personal opinions or beliefs unless clearly identified as such.
Credibility: ABA volunteers and staff shall at all times strive to ensure that the information and data they use is up-to-date and accurate. All information and data provided by ABA to any organization, entity or members shall be merely for information purposes and ABA does not exhort any beneficiary of such data to invest, and any venture and investment based on these information shall be to the true responsibility of beneficiary.

Confidentiality: ABA volunteers and staff shall treat all sensitive material derived as a result of their activities with ABA with the utmost confidentiality. No information or data concern to any member or beneficiary of ABA shall be disclosed to any third party, unless authorized by respected member or beneficiary or otherwise demanded by applicable laws of Afghanistan.

Discrimination and Harassment: ABA is committed to providing its employees with a work environment free of discrimination and harassment and has a firm policy and procedure in place to ensure no employee is subjected to discriminatory practices or harassment. All employees shall be solely based on competence and proficiency, and as well ABA shall accept its all members regardless of language, race, religion, gender or geographical location or any other aspects of differences.

This Code of Ethical Conduct of ABA is as part of internal regulatory values and shall be practiced in all ABA central office, provincial branches and or representative units anywhere inside and outside the country.
